face of christ

we arrived in ecuador around midnight on the 18th, got through customs with no worries, and even met the found of rostro de cristo in the airport. we arrived at the rostro house in the neighborhood of ajs in duran, and had a quick orientation- during the ten days in ecuador, we are to be fully present- this means all distractions (phones, ipods, cameras, etc) are taken from us for the duration of the trip. we are given cameras during a couple of days of the trip- and we can take photos with people that we have already met, etc. i knew that this was the case beforehand, so i did not bring my camera, but it made me reflect on this in the context of the 365. i have found that taking a photo everyday makes me more aware of my surroundings- i have not often found a day that i forget and have to snap something random at the end of the day- i have found that i have shifted to a constant awareness of what someone would look like as a photo, while i am no means an expert, i think i have gotten better since january. i have selected 10 photos out of the hundreds that the students took the 2 days that we did have cameras to sum up our trip and things that i thought to take photos of throughout the week. first, the rostro house.
